About Tim

State Representative Timothy R. Madden

The Madden Family

Originally from Charleston, SC, I began working summers on Nantucket in 1972 where I met my wife, Diane Pearl, a Nantucket native. Diane is a respected doctor with a private practice as an internist. I am a small business entrepreneur (two restaurants and a guesthouse over the years). We are raising our three daughters (Alexandra, Rose, and Molly) and recently celebrated our thirtieth wedding anniversary.
As a longtime Nantucket resident, I have been active in state politics and local town government. Prior to becoming your State Representative, I served as a Legislative Liaison for the past ten years, I have been the Chairman for the Nantucket County Commissioners and the Board of Selectmen; a Nantucket Land Bank Commissioner for five years; and I have served on numerous other boards and commissions. In 2008 I was elected State Representative to the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District for Freshman term. I will be returning for the 2011-2012 session in January. Thanks to all my supporters!

This session I have been appointed to the follow fours committees:

  • Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture
  • Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government
  • Committee on Transportation
  • House Committee on Ways and Means
  • Public Service:

    • Nantucket County Commission Chairman
    • Land Bank Commission
    • Board of Selectmen Chairman
    • Nantucket Planning and Economic Development Commission
    • Harbor Planning Committee, 1993
    • Nantucket Civic League, President of Polpis Association
    • Zoning Board of Appeals
    • Board of Health, Chairman
    • Town Meeting Moderator (Alternate)
    • Town and County Charter Committee, Vice Chairman

As your State Representative,  I promise to focus my efforts on the following:

    • Working towards reform in ethics and transportation and pension practices
    • Working towards greater transparency and accountability in Government
    • Ensuring that the Government spends tax payer dollars wisely
    • Stabilizing the cost of both homeowners and health insurance
    • Improving and funding waste water treatment, landfill management and waste recycling
    • Gaining passage of our Home Rule petitions for local control
    • Protecting our harbors and watersheds
    • Affordable housing that works for your community
